Golden Milk in a Golden Mug
November 18 2020 – Julie Ghatan
With flu season on the horizon, I've found myself turning to my favorite immune-boosting foods to help keep me healthy. One beverage in my immunity arsenal is Golden Milk, also known as a Turmeric Latte. Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory and has shown to boast many health benefits since inflammation is the root of most disease. But even if you're not worried about your health, Golden Milk is a yummy way to keep warm during winter! If you ask us, it's best served in one of our vintage 22k gold-plated mugs. Golden milk, golden mug: I can't think of a better combo!
Here's my Golden Milk recipe. A few things first. I recommend using a non-dairy milk since dairy is inflammatory, it's going to negate all the benefits of the tumeric if you use it. I love Oatly's full fat oat milk but you can use almond, hemp, soy, or coconut milks too. Also, because I'm lazy, I'm using ground turmeric powder. If I happen to have fresh turmeric on hand, I prefer it because the flavor is less bitter but it really doesn't make that much of a difference. The black pepper in this recipe is to help enhance the turmeric's bioavailability by 2,000%, meaning it helps your body absorb it better.
INGREDIENTS
8-10oz Oatly full-fat oat milk
3/4 tsp ground turmeric
1/4 tsp cardamom
1/4 tsp cinnamon
A few cranks of black pepper
Honey to taste
STEPS (IF YOU CAN EVEN CALL THEM THAT)
1. Gather your ingredients.
2. Mix them all together in a small saucepan. Heat on high until you see vapors forming but don't let it boil. Whisk until a nice froth forms.
3. Remove from heat and pour into a golden mug. Sip and enjoy!
