Product Description
Lovely vintage 1980s pastel raku ceramic vase by Tony Evans. Signed and numbered.
Raku is a type of traditional Japanese firing involving removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat and placing it into containers with combustible materials. Once the materials ignite, the containers are closed, which produces an intense reduction atmosphere, affecting the colors in the glaze and clay. The drastic thermal shock also produces cracking—known as crackling since it is deliberate. In fact, "raku" translate to "happiness in the accident."
